Today's Entirely Satisfying Chapter's Visit
Today's Entirely Satisfying Chapter's Visit
It is always a good day when I can walk into a bookstore, walk out with a mitt-ful of books, not have paid a cent, AND not have committed a crime.
Today was definitely one of those days. After missing the 9 p.m. closing time on Saturday – I swear it used to be open until 10 p.m. on weekends! – I dropped in today and picked up four new books.
And paid for them with gift cards from Christmas' past.
Three of the books I purchased today I found out about a week and a half ago at the Rich Dad Annual Forum in Orlando, FL. The fourth just happened to catch my eye, and be a collection by Julia Cameron, one of my favourite authors in the whole wide world. Without further ado, and most likely not in the order in which they will be read, the new additions:
Book 1: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Life Purpose by Janet Bray Attwood and Chris Attwood. This book was recommended by Marci Shimoff during her presentation at the conference. I love the promise of effortless-ness because my passions seem to be buried somewhere deep down and it would be keen to finally find them.
Book 2: Double Your Income Doing What You Love by Raymond Aaron. Aaron was the capstone presenter at the conference and very motivating. And a Canadian! I'm looking forward to checking this out, though I'm slightly worried that it is nothing more than a brochure for his mentoring program. Here's hoping he proves me wrong with tonnes of information and inspiration. My favourite line from him at the conference was, "Each mess is a lock on the gate which keeps abundance out!" Makes me see my house in a whole new (and very scary) light.
Book 3: Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out by Marci Shimoff. A little bundle of energy onstage but much more down-to-earth at the pub, I am looking forward to learning how to take a life-long 'down' person and raise their happiness set-point so that each day (or at least almost every day) is looked forward to with anticipation and not anxiety. She has been a major force behind the Chicken Soup for the SoulChicken Soup for the Soul
series so if you like those stories, this may be the book for you.
Book 4: Prayers to the Great Creator: Prayers and Declarations for a Meaningful Life (Blessings, Transitions, Heart Steps and Answered Prayers) by Julia Cameron. Other than a rather hard to read script font on the cover this tome promises to be inspiration day after day. If you haven't yet read The Artist's WayThe Artist's Way by Cameron and you want to write I highly recommend it. The Morning Pages have been my saving grace on many days.
Well, that's today's haul. I'll add them to the growing list of Books To Read. I am going to make an effort to finish Tomorrow's God by NDW and Depletion and Abundance: Life on the New Home Front by Sharon Astyk before I begin any more but I'll probably sneak a peek at The Passion Test. I just can't resist a good test.
